Perception of coworking and its potential in the development of Guayaquil’s entrepreneurial ecosystem
Abstract
This study examines entrepreneurs’ perceptions of coworking in Guayaquil, assessing their familiarity, usage, and expected benefits. Using a mixed-method approach, surveys were conducted with 383 entrepreneurs and professionals, complemented by interviews with key informants. The findings indicate that while awareness of coworking remains low, there is growing interest in its advantages, particularly in specialized consulting in finance, marketing, and talent management. Identified barriers include a lack of information, perceived high costs, and the location of coworking spaces. The interviews highlighted that entrepreneurs believe coworking should not be limited to physical spaces but rather offer strategic services that drive business growth. The study concludes that although coworking is perceived positively, its adoption in Guayaquil depends on strategies that enhance its visibility, accessibility, and alignment with the needs of the local entrepreneurial ecosystem.
